House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's (D-Calif.) five children and nine grandchildren joined her in Congress Thursday as she was elected the next speaker. She earned 220 votes from Democrats to win the role, and no one was more excited about each individual vote than Pelosi's granddaughter Bella.

Before the vote, Bella's mother Christine Pelosi shared a photo of the House speaker and Bella "getting spiffed up for the big moment," with Bella wearing a "Madam Speaker" pin. Things only got more exciting from there, with Bella doling out hugs and going absolutely wild when someone voted for her grandmother. And when Pelosi got to vote for herself?

Pelosi secured the 218-vote majority to win the House speakership on Thursday despite 12 Democrats voting for other lawmakers. And when Pelosi called children to the podium as she took her oath of office, Bella was the first one by her side. Kathryn Krawczyk
