Less than a week after being discharged from the hospital following surgery to relieve bleeding-related pressure on his brain, former President Jimmy Carter returned to the hospital over the weekend for treatment of a urinary tract infection, spokeswoman Deanna Congileo said Monday. "He is feeling better and looks forward to returning home soon," she added. "We will issue a statement when he is released for further rest and recovery at home."
Carter, 95, is the longest-living former president and he has battled several recent health problems, including overcoming cancer. In October alone, Carter fell and hit his head and got 14 stitches, then fell and fractured his pelvis — and in between those incidents, he traveled to Nashville to volunteer his house-building talents with Habitat for Humanity. Carter also continues to teach a popular Sunday school class at his home church in Plains, Georgia.
