While the company has yet to confirm any details, one of the models could be its first "all-electric car", the magazine says, adding it will have "an SUV body style".

Christian Strube, Skoda's head of development, told Autocar an electric car is "in the design studio and will be ready for Shanghai in April".

It will be an "interpretation" of Volkswagen's MEB manufacturing platform and is set to be "packed with technology", he adds.

AutoExpress had previously reported that an image posted by Skoda teased a "sleek" and "coupe-like" electric concept car with similar front and rear lights to the Kodiaq SUV and Superb saloon.

Skoda chief executive Bernhard Maier told the magazine: "We will show a surprise in Shanghai. It will give an outlook of what electrical mobility at Skoda will look like."

The Shanghai Motor Show runs from 21 to 28 April.

Skoda adds sleek Sportline model

05 February

Notable differences include 19ins wheels and a glossy black grille, which has become synonymous with performance through its use on premium German brands such as Mercedes and BMW. There are also coloured protective body panelling and black highlights along the roof rails and wing mirrors.

Inside, drivers will find Alcantara sports seats and aluminium-covered pedals. Electronically adjustable wing mirrors are also included, as is a multi-functional steering wheel and LED ambient lighting, giving it a more premium feel.

AutoExpress adds the car will receive an autonomous braking system as standard and a revised version of park assist with "surround view cameras". Adaptive chassis control, an optional extra, allows drivers to activate a "sport setup for the dampers", which is expected to improve handling and stability.

The Sportline will be available with two diesel engines, available in 148bhp or 187bhp form, as well as 148bhp and 178bhp petrol engines. None of the power units appear to offer an increase in performance, though, suggesting the revisions are mostly cosmetic.

Volkswagen-owned Skoda has also revealed plans to introduce a vRS variant of the Kodiaq, which is expected to include the 237bhp 2.0-litre diesel engine from the VW Tiguan SUV, although no official performance details have been mentioned yet.

The company will reveal more about the Kodiaq Sportline at the Geneva Motor Show in March, including prices and a UK release date.
