A new documentary in cinemas this week is redefining what it means to be a Satanist. The film, Hail Satan?, by Penny Lane, charts the rise of The Satanic Temple and its fight against Christian domination of public life in the US. With charitable drives and progressive principles, should we take its members seriously as the new voice of reason?

Faulty evidence
This week the Danish government cast doubt on the reliability of mobile phone location data used in the country’s courts, ordering a review of 10,700 criminal cases in which juries were presented with potentially flawed evidence. As a result, prosecutors may have claimed they had proof that a suspect was at a crime scene when no such evidence existed. More broadly, this demonstrates the drawbacks of highly technical evidence, which may be hard for defence lawyers and juries to evaluate, and which may be giving a false impression of infallibility.
Abortion
Planned Parenthood, a group in the US advocating for the political and legal protection of reproductive rights, has announced that it will be withdrawing from a federal family planning program due to a new rule brought in by the Trump administration. This week we ask, to what extent are women's rights in the US under attack, and how will the issue of abortion affect next year's election?
