Book banning is unfortunately now part and parcel of working in both school and public libraries. By the end of the 2023-2024 school year, PEN America had recorded 10,046 instances of book bans, with over 4,000 unique titles removed from shelves across the country. Florida and Iowa currently lead the charge in book bans, with the highest number of books recorded: more than 4,500 in Florida and more than 3,600 in Iowa.
