Champions League: Mohamed Salah stars as Liverpool go top of group C
Egyptian scores his 50th goal for the Reds in the rout of Red Star
Liverpool 4 Red Star Belgrade 0
Liverpool have taken control of Champions League group C after running out comfortable winners against Red Star Belgrade at Anfield last night.
With Paris Saint-Germain and Napoli drawing 2-2 in the French capital - courtesy of Angel di Maria’s injury-time strike for the hosts - the Reds are now one point clear at the top of the table with Napoli second on five points.

Salah on song
Roberto Firmino converted Andy Robertson’s cut-back on 20 minutes to put Liverpool one goal up, and then Mohamed Salah added a second just before the break. The Egyptian made it 3-0 from the penalty spot on 51 minutes, his 50th goal for the club in 65 appearances.
So dominant were the hosts that Sadio Mane could afford to miss a penalty before the Senegalese found his range ten minutes from time to make it 4-0.
“It’s great, I’m happy to score my 50th goal for Liverpool,” said Salah, who then paid tribute to his teammates for their part in his reaching the landmark. “We know how to play with each other and know our qualities.”
Klopp content
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was satisfied with his team’s performance, as well as events in Paris.
“It was a really good game and I enjoyed it a lot,” said the German. “Napoli and PSG played a 2-2 draw, but I can imagine it was pretty lively. It will stay exciting.
“This group is a tough one for all of us. We have to be ready every day and hopefully we will be ready in two weeks.”
In their next Champions League match Liverpool travel to Belgrade to face Red Star on Tuesday 6 November.
