Movies to watch in 2018
From new Aardman to superhero spectacles, there's something for everybody at the cinema next year
As a big year for Hollywood draws to a close, here are some of the hottest movie prospects for 2018 for those looking to hole up in the nearest cinema.
Ocean's Eight
The upcoming heist film stars Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Rihanna, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson and Awkwafina, and is a twist on 1960 Rat Pack heist film Ocean’s Eleven, which was updated and turned into a series by Steven Soderbergh in the early 2000s.
The action offers a “feminine twist on the franchise made famous by George Clooney and Brad Pitt”, writes The Verge.

This time around, the women are out to crash the famous Met Gala in New York City in order to make off with some serious jewels.
It was written by The Hunger Games director Gary Ross and Olivia Milch, and is set for a June release.
Untitled Chris Morris movie
“It turns out that Chris Morris, of Brass Eye fame, has already shot his second feature film,” writes Den of Geek. “His first, the biting black comedy Four Lions, was released back in 2010.”
It has now been confirmed that his second was shot in the US and the Caribbean over the summer of 2017, and features Anna Kendrick.
“We don’t have a title for the film at the moment, nor a release date,” the site adds. “Just the promise that it arrives in 2018, and that one of the best comedy talents the UK has produced in recent times is back making material.”
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
The second chapter in a planned Jurassic World trilogy features Blue, the last surviving raptor from Jurassic World, and a return of T-Rex which will release June 22, 2018.
Though preceded by the three Jurassic Park films, Jurassic World is now forming its own series, after the 2015 release had “unexpectedly impressive results at the box office, becoming the fourth highest-grossing film of all time”, reports The Guardian.
Black Panther
Black Panther follows T'Challa who, after the events of superhero outing Captain America: Civil War, “returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to take his place as King”, writes Rotten Tomatoes.
However, when an old enemy reappears on the radar, T'Challa's mettle as King and Black Panther is tested when he is drawn into a conflict that puts the entire fate of Wakanda and the world at risk.
The film is set for a February release.
The Incredibles 2
It's only taken 14 years but Disney Pixar's first-ever look at The Incredibles 2 reveals that the youngest member of the superhuman family has a new power - Jack-Jack Parr can now shoot lasers out of his eyes. That's in addition to the shapeshifting, fire-making, and phasing powers he tapped into in the first movie in 2004, writes Mashable.
“We learned over the summer that mom Helen Parr — aka Elastigirl — is the star of this new story”, it adds, but points out that “we don't know what global threat she's facing, but we're sure she can handle it”.
The long-awaited sequel will hit cinemas on 15 June, 2018.
Early Man
Early Man is the new “prehistoric comedy adventure” from four-time Academy Award-winning director Nick Park and Aardman Animation, the creators of the Wallace & Gromit and Shaun the Sheep franchises.
“Shot in Aardman’s own distinctive style, the film will take audiences on an extraordinary journey into an exciting new world unleashing an unforgettable tribe of unique and funny new characters voiced by an all-star British cast,” writes Coming Soon.
“Set at the dawn of time, when prehistoric creatures roamed the earth, Early Man tells the story of courageous caveman hero Dug (Eddie Redmayne) and his best friend Hognob as they unite his tribe against a mighty enemy Lord Nooth (Tom Hiddleston) and his Bronze Age City to save their home.”
Early Man opens in UK cinemas on January 26, 2018
