Man U rookie joins Dzeko and Arsenal's Ox in team of the week

Arsenal and Liverpool both dropped points against their local rivals in key home derby matches this weekend. The main beneficiaries were title favourites Chelsea and Man City who both won. City are up to third after beating Hull, but they remain five points adrift of the rampant Chelsea who are three points clear of second-placed Southampton.

The 2-1 scoreline doesn't really tell the story of Manchester United's nailbiting win over West Ham, but the points propel United up to seventh and above the likes of Spurs, Everton and Liverpool – who are languishing in 13th place, although they are just one point behind their Old Trafford rivals.

So after another weekend of action, who were the stars of the show? Here's our pick of the experts' picks:

Goalkeeper:

Hugo Lloris (Spurs)

A popular, but not unanimous, choice this week, the Tottenham stopper gets the nod after pulling off at least three fine saves as Spurs held Arsenal at the Emirates. "There were plenty of clean sheets around the league this weekend, but Hugo Lloris stole the spotlight in the north London derby, making several incredible saves," says Bleacher Report.

Defence:

Ryan Bertrand (Southampton), Phil Jagielka (Everton), Younes Kaboul (Spurs), Patrick McNair (Man United)

Chelsea defender Bertrand is proving to be a more than adequate replacement for Luke Shaw while on loan at Southampton and he enjoyed his afternoon on Saturday, as he "chipped in superbly with a goal and some terrific all-round play as the Saints beat QPR 2-1", says ESPN. England defender Jagielka scored a stunning injury-time equaliser for Everton against Liverpool. But it wasn't just his 25-yard pearler that earns him the nod. He looked solid at the back and the goal "was a fitting reward for a player who has battled his way through an uncertain World Cup and a shaky start to the season", says Garth Crooks of the BBC.

Kaboul is the second Spurs player to make this week's team. He may have endured a tricky start to the campaign but, says website Fanatix, he "was a rock at the back for Mauricio Pochettino at the Emirates". The final berth goes to Man United debutant McNair. He didn't get votes from everyone but he impressed Bleacher Report with his "nerves of steel" as he "performed superbly" alongside Marco Rojo as United kept West Ham at bay.

Midfield:

Graham Dorrens (West Brom), Mile Jedinak (Crystal Palace), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal), Willian (Chelsea)

West Brom midfielder Dorrens set up two goals and scored another as the Baggies beat Burnley 4-0. His display meant he was the highest-scoring fantasy league player this week. Crystal Palace skipper Jedinak could be "the most underrated player in the Premier League", says ESPN, after another vintage performance and a second goal in as many games for the Australian.

Oxlade-Chamberlain saved Arsenal after they fell behind to Spurs. His "dynamic display" for the Gunners earns him the player of the weekend award from Sky Sports. "He truly delivered when called upon," says the broadcaster. The final spot goes to Willian, who outshone many of his illustrious Chelsea team-mates "with his infectious display against Villa", according to Crooks. The Brazilian scored one and set one up as Chelsea maintained their unbeaten start to the season.

Attack:

Saido Berahino (West Brom), Edin Dzeko (Man City)

West Brom striker Berahino scored twice against Burnley and just holds off the challenge of Southampton's Graziano Pelle for the first striker's berth. There is plenty of talk that the youngster will be afforded an England call-up before too long and if he carries on at this rate it will surely be a foregone conclusion.

The other spot goes to Man City forward, Dzeko. Playing as a lone striker, the Bosnian "stole the show upfront this weekend with two superb goals", says website Caughtoffside. "He continues to establish himself as a vital player for this team, despite plenty of competition for places in attack."
