Video: goalkeeper Alberto Brignoli scores a flying header against Milan
How Twitter reacted to Benevento securing their first ever Serie A point
It’s not often that goalkeepers score a goal, but when they do it’s likely to be in dramatic circumstances.
In Italy yesterday, Serie A’s bottom side Benevento, who had lost 14 games on the trot, went into the 95th minute of their home clash against AC Milan losing 2-1.
After winning a last-gasp free-kick on the left-hand side, goalkeeper Alberto Brignoli made his way towards the Milan area to join the attack.

Danilo Cataldi stepped up to send an inswinging cross towards the penalty spot. Brignoli leapt highest to head the ball into the corner, sending the Benevento players, fans and officials into raptures.
Earning Benevento their first point in Serie A, Brignoli said he had “nothing to lose” against Milan, who had Gennaro Gattuso in charge for the first time.
“I’m not just happy for me but for everyone,” said Brignoli, who is on loan from Juventus. “We’ve lost so many games undeservedly with goals in the 90th minute but now it’s our turn to celebrate.
“It’s a dream to be in Serie A although we hoped that it would have turned out better than this. There was nothing to lose. I just closed my eyes and jumped. It was a goalkeeper’s goal, not a forward’s goal.”
Within seconds of Brignoli’s flying header, he and his team were trending on Twitter. We round up the best reactions to the keeper’s goal.
