Anyway, I was only really interested in the wines and during the course of the dinner I noticed we had jumped from a delightful chardonnay straight to the big guns – Brunello di Montalcino, Cru Campo del Drago and Riserva Millocento – missing out my featured wine. Of course, Massimo wanted the well-heeled guests to taste his impressive Brunellos, but when I asked winemaker Cecilia Leoneschi if I could taste the very first vintage of their stellar Rosso she luckily jumped at the chance to pour it for me.

My recommended wine this week is a spectacular mini-Brunello in every single respect including the price. Coming from the superb 2015 vintage, the wine has just arrived in this country and it shows amazing fruit and class in spite of its youth. I was flabbergasted by the quality of the wine and it was my favourite on the night.

Pick up a bottle today or, better still, visit the historic Tuscan property from which it hails. And remember to take your golf clubs.
