Arsenal transfer news: £35m for Moussa Sissoko, Giroud in Higuain swap?

12 July

If Moussa Sissoko wants to leave Newcastle this summer it will cost the club that signs him £35m. That's according to Sky Sports, which claims that the Magpies have slapped the eye-watering price tag on the France midfielder after his eye-catching performances at Euro 2016.

The 26-year-old, who last month described Arsenal as a "beautiful" club, has made no secret of his desire to leave Newcastle now that they're in the Championship. The Gunners are believed to be in pole position to sign Sissoko, but his valuation has shot up after his displays in the last month.

Sky Sports says that Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez is trying "to persuade his top players to stay" and help Newcastle get back into the Premier League but that's unlikely to convince the Frenchman. "I hope that they will be smart enough to understand that, to continue my development, I need to keep playing at the highest level," Sissoko said of his situation at Newcastle last month, shortly before issuing his come-and-get-me plea to Arsenal.

Another Frenchman with an uncertain future is Olivier Giroud with the Daily Star claiming that the Gunners may offer their Gallic goalgetter to Napoli in exchange for Gonzalo Higuain. The Argentine has long been linked with a move to the Emirates and Wenger is ready to make a cash offer to the Italian outfit, and throw in Giroud as a sweetener.

Arsenal transfer news: Bad news in Lacazette and Morata hunt

11 July

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has dismissed the idea that Alexandre Lacazette is poised to join Arsenal this month.

Rumours have been circulating in recent weeks that the 25-year-old frontman was ready to make the move to the Emirates after being courted by Arsene Wenger, but Aulas told French sports daily L'Equipe that he's confident that Lacazette will remain loyal to Lyon.

"I saw Arsene during the France [Euro] matches and he has not told me [about a move]," Aulas said."I don't think there's anything to it and it seems Alex wants to spend this season with Lyon in the new stadium... I think he will stay with us and we are very happy."

And there's more bad news for Arsenal fans with the report in Spanish rag Marca claiming that Real Madrid have decided Spain striker Alvaro Morata isn't for sale after all. It had been believed that the 23-year-old would be sold if a club was willing to meet Real's €75m asking price but it seems that Morata's good form during the Euros have resulted in Real having a change of heart.

But there is some good news for Gooners with ESPN reporting comments carried by a disappointed Giuseppe Marotta, the director general of Juventus, who had been circling Alexis Sanchez.

He has been forced to accept that Sanchez is not for sale this summer. Asked about rumours linking his club with a £38m move for the Chilean frontman, Marotta admitted an approach had been made but "Arsenal told us they have no intention of selling... that the Chilean attacker is non-transferable and that he is not on the market."

Arsenal transfer news: Juventus eye up Alexis Sanchez

08 July

Speculation is increasing that Juventus are poised to table a bid in the hope of luring Alexis Sanchez from the Emirates.

The Sun, taking its cue from respected Italian website Calciomercato, says the Italian team are ready to offer Arsenal £26m for the Chilean ace - £7m less than the £33m Arsenal paid Barcelona two years ago.

The South American sharpshooter has scored 29 times in the two years he's been with the Gunners but rumours emerged earlier in the year that he was unhappy with the way Arsenal bottled the big occasions. Sanchez’s agent, Fernando Felicevich, has reportedly "told Arsenal his client is ready to leave the Emirates".

The Sun says that Arsene Wenger is "keen to hold on to Sanchez" and only an offer way bigger than £26m will convince him to sell.

But perhaps the Gunners boss believes Juventus will come in with a second better and bigger offer because the Sun also says Arsenal are primed to launch a "stunning £43m bid" for Julian Draxler.

The 22-year-old German winger was part of the team knocked out of Euro 2016 by France on Thursday and ESPN claims Wenger "has already offered a sum in excess of £40m" for him. The manager tried and failed to land Draxler last summer, but saw him sign a five-year deal with Wolfsburg instead.

Arsenal transfer news: Battle on to sign Alvaro Morata

06 July

A day after being linked with Alexandre Lacazette and Romelu Lukaku, Arsenal are now said to be on the tail of another of Europe's most sought-after sharpshooters.

According to the Daily Star, the Gunners "are ready to battle Chelsea" for Real Madrid ace Alvaro Morata. Reports emerged over the weekend that new Stamford Bridge's new gaffer, Antonio Conte, sees the 23-year-old player "as the ideal partner for Diego Costa in his new-look Chelsea frontline".

The paper adds that Arsene Wenger has now joined the chase and is ready to make a move, but, in true Wenger style, "only if the Spanish side lower their asking price".

Never a man to pay over the odds, the Arsenal boss is reluctant to meet Real's £57m asking price.

The good news for the Gunners is that Chelsea also see the fee as exorbitant and if it's not dropped, they're expected to turn their attention to Southampton striker Graziano Pelle, who Conte coached in Euro 2016.

Meanwhile, Metro reports Arsenal have taken young Dutch goalkeeper Guy Smit on a two-week trial with a view to a summer purchase.

The promising 20-year-old recently passed on the chance to renew his contract with NEC Nijmegen and although Brighton also want to give him a go, the Gunners have first bite at the cherry.
