Batkid: Watch a 5-year-old boy save San Francisco (with a little help from the Make-A-Wish Foundation)

The non-profit organization has organized a full day of adventures for Miles Scott, a young leukemia patient

Today, San Francisco has been turned into Gotham City, and only one hero can save it: Batkid, whose day of adventures has been carefully coordinated by the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Five-year-old Miles Scott was diagnosed with leukemia when he was just 18 months old — and when he "wished" to be Batman, the non-profit organization had to get creative. (Scott's leukemia is reportedly in remission.)

In order to fulfill Scott's superheroic dreams, Make-A-Wish organized a full day of events, relying on the aid of thousands of volunteers. After a live news bulletin on KGO-TV, Batkid teamed up with Batman and hopped into the Batmobile — a Lamborghini with a Batman decal on each door. Scott is in the middle of a series of adventures that includes encounters with villains like the Riddler and the Penguin. The day will end at City Hall, where Mayor Ed Lee will honor his bravery with a key to the city.

The official Twitter account for Make-A-Wish San Francisco has been tweeting highlights from Batkid's day so far:

The Make-A-Wish San Francisco account is still tweeting live updates, so go to the group's account if you want to see Batkid's latest adventures. Anyone who prefers a "man on the street" approach to his superhoic exploits can also search the hashtag #SFBatkid on Twitter, where attendees are being encouraged to share their own pictures and updates.
