Man City transfer news: Four depart in Deadline Day cull
Joe Hart, Eliaquim Mangala, Samir Nasri and Wilfried Bony all leave on loan - latest Man City transfer news and gossip
Having forked out more that £160m this summer, Pep Guardiola spent Deadline Day taking an axe to his squad and the result was that by late on Wednesday night Joe Hart, Samir Nasri, Wilfried Bony and Eliaquim Mangala had all left the Etihad.
Bony has joined Stoke City on loan, putting an end - temporarily, at least - to his Sky Blues nightmare, says the Manchester Evening News. Since arriving at the club in a £28m move from Swansea in January 2015, the Ivorian frontman has made just 15 league starts and has yet to feature under new boss Guardiola.
As for Nasri, the French playmaker is now on Sevilla's books after what the MEN describes as "a sit-down chat with Guardiola earlier this week". The Spanish gaffer told Nasri he wasn't part of his plans and the upshot is that the former Arsenal midfielder has gone to Sevilla for the rest of the season. "Nasri is the player we have been looking for. He is the final piece of the jigsaw," said Sevilla football director Monchi.

Nasri's response to the deal was a tweet directed at City: "It's been a pleasure, thanks to everyone in the club and the fans for the five amazing years and wish you best of luck for the season."
Centre-back Mangala is also now in Spain, having completed a deal that will have him playing for Valencia for the rest of the season. The Sky Blues defender arrived at the Etihad Porto in 2014 in a mammoth £42m move but injuries have derailed the Frenchman's progress at the club and Guardiola has made it plain that he sees John Stones as his main man this season.
Finally, the MEN reports that Joe Hart confirmed on Wednesday his move to Italian club Torino on a season-long loan. Describing the sudden departure of the 29-year-old England gloveman as "a shock", the paper carries comments made by Hart on signing the short-term deal: “Torino's offer came at the right moment, and in the right manner," he said. "I am very excited to test myself in an important and beautiful league such as Serie A."
As to why he'd chosen Torino, Hart explained that one of their staff, Attilio Lombardo, had worked at City under Roberto Mancini a few seasons ago. “I have already met Attilio Lombardo, with whom I worked in Manchester, winning a lot,” he said. “I hope to live the same emotions this year. I have read an interview about Toro and the coach wants humility and ambition. I like that. That's how I want to be.”
Torino president Urbano Cairo couldn't conceal his delight at the swoop, exclaiming: "His transfer to Torino makes us proud and demonstrates our willingness to build a more competitive team... not only his talent, but Hart also brings with him humility and enthusiasm. These are the same features that characterise our club."
Man City transfer news: Exits for Mangala, Nasri and Hart
31 August
Tottenham and Liverpool could miss out in a late scramble for Manchester City defender Eliaquim Mangala with The Sun reporting that the 25-year-old French centre-half is poised to rejoin former club Porto on Deadline Day.
Having spent more than £150m over the summer City boss Guardiola is set to spend the final hours of the transfer window cutting some of the dead wood from his squad, starting with the defender.
The two Premier League clubs were hot on the heels of Mangala earlier in the summer once it was clear he didn't fit into the plans of new boss Pep Guardiola, who prefers Nicolas Otamendi and John Stones. But it is also believed that Guardiola is hesitant to sell Mangala to an English rival but has no problem offloading him back to Porto, the club he left for City in 2014 on a £42m deal.
Another player heading out of the Etihad today is Samir Nasri with Sky Sports reporting that the French midfielder is on his way to Sevilla on loan. It's believed the 29-year-old former Arsenal playmaker will undergo a medical today before signing a deal that will keep him in Spain for the season. However, adds, Sky Sports, "there is no option to buy the player on a permanent deal".
Finally, BBC Sport says that Torino will "announce the loan signing" of Joe Hart today, taking the England gloveman until June. Once terms are agreed the 29-year-old will rejoin the England squad to prepare for Sunday's first 2018 World Cup qualifying match against Slovakia.
Man City transfer news: Exits for Samir Nasri and Joe Hart
30 August
Pint-sized French playmaker Samir Nasri has his bags packed and he's ready to leave Manchester City in the next 24 hours, says the Daily Mirror.
The 29-year-old quit Arsenal for the Eithad in 2011 but his form has slipped in recent seasons and new boss Pep Guardiola doesn't appear to have much faith in Nasri, failing to give him a start in the Sky Blues' first three league outings.
Speaking to French broadcaster SFR Sport, Nasri was asked if he could leave City before tomorrow's transfer deadline arrives. "Yes, there could still be movement," said the man who cost City £24m when they signed him five years ago. "It depends on a lot of things in fact. There's been a lot of speculation. Things that are true. Things that are false, too, because they've never shown me the door or anything like that... We're going to sit down, discuss it and see what's to be done."
Turkish club Besiktas are front-runners to sign Nasri but the Star reports that Guardiola appeared to extend an olive branch to the Frenchman over the weekend, saying: "Nasri can stay... if he wants to help us and stay to be part of something, it depends on him."
Meanwhile is Joe Hart off to Italy? The Guardian thinks so, saying the unloved gloveman "is considering a loan move to Torino". Aware that he must make a move from City if he doesn't want to spend the next few months polishing Willy Caballero's boots, the 29-year-old Hart is mulling over the chance for a spell in Italy and the opportunity to relaunch his career in the Serie A.
Man City transfer news: Bravo signs, Everton don't want Hart
26 August
Out with the old and in with the new, that's the gist of the message from Pep Guardiola with the Man City boss confirming the signing of Claudio Bravo just hours after Joe Hart made what will almost certainly be his last appearance for City against Steaua Bucharest.
The Chilean goalkeeper arrives from Barcelona - who on Thursday announced the signing of Jasper Cillessen from Ajax - on a four-year-deal with the official City website describing the 33-year-old as possessing "a wealth of experience including back-to-back La Liga titles with Barca and successive Copa America triumphs with Chile".
Bravo won his 100th international cap earlier in the summer but it's not just his experience that Guardiola craves. First praising his "great leadership qualities", Guardiola added: "He is a goalkeeper I have admired for a number of years and I'm really happy he is now a City player.”
Bravo gave the love back to his new gaffer, gushing: “I have followed City's progress in recent years... I know the Club is building something very special and I hope I can be part of many successes in the coming years. Now I will challenge the other great goalkeepers the Club has and together I hope we can win many trophies."
Hart won't be one of those keepers although where the 29-year-old is heading is still unclear. BBC Sport reports that Everton manager Ronald Koeman has ruled out a move. The Dutchman was asked about the rumours linking the Toffees to Hart, but replied he has "no interest" in signing the England gloveman.
Man City transfer news: Claudio Bravo jets in, Joe Hart heads for exit
24 August
Claudio Bravo has arrived in Manchester and is about to complete his move to City. It is a story covered by all of the national newspapers and websites and will surely trigger England goalkeeper Joe Hart’s exit from the club.
Bravo’s £14.5m move from Barcelona could be completed today after a medical. The Sun says a fee and personal terms were agreed last week with the Chile international stopper but Barcelona were reluctant to sign off the deal until a replacement had been found.
The Catalan giants are set to sign Jasper Cillessen from Ajax and the fact Bravo, 33, was spotted and photographed at Manchester airport yesterday suggests the deal is done.
Bravo played for Barcelona against Real Betis on Saturday and The Daily Mail says Barcelona made a last-ditch attempt to keep him by offering him a pay-rise but he had already set his heart on joining City and turned them down.
Hart has not featured for City this season because manager Pep Guardiola likes keepers who can play out from the back. Willy Caballero has been the first choice so far and the arrival of Bravo would relegate Hart to number three in the pecking order.
Hart is due to play for City in tonight’s Champions League dead rubber against Steaua Bucharest in what seems sure to be his farewell match for City. City are 5-0 ahead after the play-off first leg in Bucharest last week.
Man City transfer news: Claudio Bravo deal means Joe Hart exit
22 August
Joe Hart can start emptying his locker this morning after confirmation from Barcelona that Claudio Bravo will be joining Manchester City. The gaffe-prone England keeper has failed to impress Pep Guardiola since he took over the helm at the Etihad with the Daily Mail saying that the Spaniard doesn't rate Hart's "passing and his footwork".
That's not the case with Bravo, however, and Barcelona sporting director Robert Fernandez has told reporters that City have been in touch about the South American gloveman.
"We have an agreement in principle with Manchester City for Claudio Bravo," admitted Fernandez . "We are waiting for events this week. We will open the door for Claudio when we sign another goalkeeper." As to who that keeper might be, the Mail says that Barcelona "are close" to signing Jasper Cillessen from Ajax on a five-year deal, with the Dutch side demanding £12.1m.
Meanwhile Napoli are targeting Manchester City defender Eliaquim Mangala, says Goal.com picking up on reports in Italy, which could suggest that the Serie A side are bracing themselves for the departure of Kalidou Koulibaly.
Chelsea have been linked with the burly blocker this summer although reports last week said Napoli would not sell for any price. But perhaps they've come round to Chelsea's way of thinking and are already planning to spend some of the fee on Mangala.
Man City transfer news: Yaya Toure to stay, £17m for Bravo
16 August
Yaya Toure is not finished as a Sky Blue. That's the defiant message from the player's agent, reports the Daily Mirror, despite the fact the Ivorian has been omitted from Man City's squad for the Champions League play-off clash against Steaua Bucharest this evening.
The 33-year-old didn't feature in Saturday's win over Sunderland and his continued absence has led to speculation that his days at the Etihad are numbered. But Toure's agent, Dmitri Seluk, believes his client isn't a spent force for the Citizens. "Pep is the best manager in the world and I just hope he gives Yaya the chance to prove he is still good enough for City," said Seluk.
And asked whether Toure is thinking of searching for a new club before the transfer window closes, Seluk said: "There is no talk of a transfer. Yaya will stay and fight."
Meanwhile the Daily Express says that Swansea are "set to offer Jason Denayer a way out of Manchester City". Swans gaffer Francesco Guidolin is in the market for a centre-half after Ashley Williams was offloaded to Everton last week, and the Express says Denayer is in the frame.
The Belgian defender is unlikely to rise above Vincent Kompany, John Stones, Nicolas Otamendi and Eliaquim Mangala in City's pecking order and provided Swansea table a reasonable bid a deal will soon be agreed.
Finally, the Daily Mail claims that City "are poised to sign Barcelona goalkeeper Claudio Bravo" just as soon as the Spanish side find a replacement. The £17m deal will see Bravo come to City rather than Marc Andre ter Stegen, the German gloveman who has also been linked to the Etihad in recent weeks.
The Mail says Barcelona want to keep Ter Stegen but are happy to sell Bravo as Pep Guardiola gives a further indication that Joe Hart's time at City could be drawing to a close.
Man City transfer news: John Stones deal could mean Mangala exit
10 August
Manchester City have succeeded where Chelsea failed last summer and prised John Stones from Everton. The London club and then boss Jose Mourinho tried three times to sign the central defender 12 months ago, but while the Blues were rebuffed the Sky Blues announced on Tuesday the capture of the 22-year-old.
But the move could lead to the departure of Eliaquim Mangala says the Daily Mail, which reports that the defender could be farmed out on loan as he will be surplus to requirements.
That could be good news for Arsenal, though, as Mangala could replace Gunners target Shkodran Mustafi at Valencia.
But back at City the focus was on their new arrival. In a statement posted on their official website, City said they were "delighted" to disclose that they had signed the England international on "a six-year deal which will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until at least 2022".
Stones is the Citizens' eighth signing of the 2016 summer transfer window, and was suitably enthusiastic about his move when he was unveiled. "I'm absolutely delighted to sign for City and now the deal's done I'm looking forward to the next stage in my career," he said. "I know it will be tough getting a place in this team but I'm determined to become the best player I can be and help us to success."
The love-in continued when Pep Guardiola was asked for his thoughts with the City manager saying: "I like the way he plays the game and I'm looking forward to welcoming him into the squad... we want to help John show his quality with us and improve on what he has already achieved."
According to the BBC, Everton will receive £47.5m for Stones, "making him the world's second most expensive defender" [behind David Luiz of Paris Saint-Germain], not bad for a player who began his professional career with Barnsley.
Man City transfer news: John Stones takes summer spree to £155m
09 August
Not to be outdone by their locals rivals, Manchester City have taken their summer spending past the £150m mark by landing Everton defender John Stones for £47.5m.
The announcement comes after Man United agreed a record £89m transfer for Paul Pogba and like that deal, the news broke in an unexpected manner as City named Stones in their Champions League squad.
They subsequently confirmed that the 22-year-old England international had signed a six-year contract. "The fee, which makes Stones the most expensive defender in Premier League history, will increase to £50m with add-ons," reports Sky Sports, which says the deal was finalised on Monday night.
"The news comes after what a City source admitted was an administrative error on Tuesday morning when Stones was named in the club's Champions League squad, which was published on the Uefa website."
Everton held on to the defender last summer despite a £40m offer from Chelsea. However, this time round they have accepted a record fee for the youngster and are expected to sign Ashley Williams from Swansea as a replacement.
Since arriving at the Etihad, Pep Guardiola has spent more than £155m on his squad, says the Daily Telegraph, that's £10m more than Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford.
"It also takes City’s spending on centre-halves to £121.5m in the past two years after the previous signings of Nicolas Otamendi and Eliaquim Mangala," adds the paper.
Man City transfer news: Samir Nasri exits, Zabaleta stays
9 August
The man who once wowed the Premier League with his panache is a pariah waiting to be sold. That's the fate of Samir Nasri, whose decision to walk out on Arsenal for Manchester City in 2011 won't go down as one of the best decisions of his footballing career.
Since arriving at the Etihad in 2011 the French midfielder's powers have steadily diminished and last season the 29-year-old made just four Premier League starts. Now Talksport, citing reports in the French media, claims that Nasri "has been placed on the transfer list" by new boss Pep Guardiola.
It's alleged that the playmaker was forced to train alone by Guardiola after returning from his holiday carrying some excess baggage of the flabby kind.
Now it appears the new Citizens gaffer has decided to cut his losses and sell Nasri while he still might be able to recoup some of the £24m that City paid Arsenal in 2011. Talksport believe that the Sky Blues are "willing to listen to offers of around £17m" and among the interested parties are AC Milan, Inter Milan and Roma.
One City star not going anywhere is Pablo Zabaleta with Goal.com reporting that despite intense interest from Roma the Argentine is staying at the Etihad. The 31-year-old defender, who's won two Premier League titles in his eight years with City, had been linked with a move away but the veteran full-back has laughed off the rumours, saying: "There was a lot of speculation - that came from the media. I don't know how many times I was away to Italy. It was incredible. Every day there was a new club."
Man City transfer news: Joe Hart faces axe for bad ball skills
8 August
Joe Hart's days at the Etihad could be numbered with new boss Pep Guardiola reportedly chasing Marc-Andre ter Stegen as his number one goalkeeper. Not only that, says The Sun, but Guardiola is also keeping tabs on Claudio Bravo "as he plans a raid on former club Barcelona".
The stunning disclosure is bad news for Hart, whose cack-handed displays in the European Championships contributed to the Three Lions' humiliating exit at the hands of Iceland.
According to the Sun, Guardiola, who on Saturday took his spending for the summer over the £100m mark with the capture of Atletico Nacional striker Marlos Moreno, does not believe Hart "has the quality of distribution needed to suit his style", and the paper even goes so far as to quote a City insider declaring: "Hart's place is definitely under threat next season and Pep is looking for another goalkeeper. He wants someone to come straight in who is good with their feet."
It's no secret that Guardiola is a big admirer of Ter Stegen and the German is his Plan A, although the City gaffer appreciates his £67m release clause may be beyond even a club of their riches. If that's the case then the Spanish manager will look to lure Claudio Bravo from the Camp Nou although the Sun warns the Great British public not to get too carried away at the moment as Guardiola is "willing to wait until the end of the transfer window to get a deal done".
Finally, the Daily Express says that the Sky Blues won't be getting their hands on Leonardo Bonucci with the paper claiming that the 29-year-old defender "has snubbed a move to City". Quoting Italian rag Gazzetta dello Sport, the Express says that Bonucci was offered a £6.8m-a-year contract at City - double his current wages at Juventus - but decided to remain in Italy because of concerns "over the amount of game time he would get in Manchester."
Man City transfer news: Moreno to join Jesus and Sane, but no Alaba
05 August
There's no stopping the Sky Blues in their summer spending spree with Talksport reporting that they are "close to landing their third signing of the week" - Colombia international Marlos Moreno.
The 19-year-old forward, who's already won seven caps for his country despite his youth, isn't in the same price bracket as Leroy Sane and Gabriel Jesus, both of whom have been signed by Pep Guardiola this week, and Talksport says that the Atletico Nacional teenager would set back the Citizens a trifling £4.75m. But it's also believed that the new City boss sees Moreno as one for the future and to that end would loan him out to Spanish club Deportivo la Coruna.
The news is less good for City concerning David Alaba with Talksport claiming that Real Madrid are "lining up a big-money move" for the Austrian, who was one of the stars of the Bayern Munich side during Guardiola's reign. He'd been quietly confident of enticing the 24-year-old to the Etihad but reports from Spain indicate that the versatile defender and midfielder will be prised from Munich by an eye-watering Real bid.
How watering? According to Talksport, who takes Spanish rag AS as its source, the European champions are "willing to pay £55m". Not only that but Real would throw France international Raphael Varane into the bargain, a blow for Manchester United who have been tracking Varane. But that still may not be enough with AS stating that Bayern are likely to stick to their asking price of £68m.
