England’s Women’s Euro 2022 semi-final win over Sweden on Tuesday was watched by an average TV audience of 7.9m, according to the BBC. And the peak audience figure hit 9.3m as the Lionesses roared to a 4-0 victory.
On Sunday the host nation will come up against Germany in the final at Wembley Stadium in London. The final, which kicks off at 5pm and is live on BBC One, “could see the biggest UK TV audience for a women’s football match”, said the Press Association. The record was set during the 2019 Women’s World Cup, when viewing figures peaked at 11.7m people as England lost to the USA in the semi-final.
If you’ve not been lucky enough to get a ticket for Sunday’s showpiece at Wembley you may opt to watch the game at home via the Beeb’s coverage. Or you could head to one of the many screenings that will take place around the country as fans hope to see the Lionesses lift the trophy for the first time.
