A group of more than 50 polar bears has invaded a Russian town on a remote Arctic island, prompting local officials to declare a state of emergency. The animals have reportedly lost their fear of humans, and have been wandering the halls of apartment blocks in Novaya Zemlya looking for food.
Chimps build ladder to escape from zoo
Zookeepers say that a group of chimpanzees fashioned a ladder out of tree branches to escape from their enclosure at the Belfast Zoo. The animals made their own way back into their enclosure, according to zookeeper Alyn Cairns, who said the chimps knew they were not supposed to be outside.

Russian woman eaten by her own pigs
A Russian woman has reportedly been eaten by her own pigs, after she collapsed on her farm while feeding the animals. According to Russian state medie, the 56-year-old woman had an epileptic seizure, before the pigs bit into her face, ears and shoulders, fatally wounding her.
