Ten best places to celebrate Thanksgiving in London
DesignMyNight’s Leighanne Bent on where to get a classic American fix of turkey, stuffing and mac ’n’ cheese
Thanksgiving might be an American holiday, but there’s a wealth of restaurants and bars across the capital paying homage to it. From three-course feasts with ethically sourced chicken to the staple that is pumpkin pie, you can gorge on plenty of US-style grub this year, but alongside food there are a handful of places that have created Thanksgiving-themed cocktails too. Here are ten great places to visit if you’re after a memorable Thanksgiving in London.
Lady Abercorn’s Thanksgiving
Lady Abercorn’s Pub and Kitchen is a whisky savvy pop-up nestled inside five-star luxury hotel Andaz London, and in true American fashion, it’s hosting a Thanksgiving feast like no other. Offering free-flowing cocktails throughout, you can look forward to a Bulleit starter selection before moving on to a tasty turkey dinner, complete with all the trimmings alongside bottomless Yorkshire puddings. Finish up with Lady Abercorn’s signature Bulleit ice cream for a brilliant and boozy way to celebrate the holidays.

Dirty Bones
As Dirty Bones’s menu is inspired by New York comfort food, it comes as no surprise that the team has cooked up something super special for the 22nd. Only available at their Kensington restaurant, you can tuck into vegan cacao and chipotle-spiked butternut squash donuts with pumpkin seed pesto and fresh mint, a Thanksgiving turkey bun served with crispy brussel sprouts, smoked bacon and pickled cranberries, finishing with a pumpkin cheesecake with sweet and sour cherry sauce.
Maxwell’s Bar and Grill
Serving Stateside food since the 1980s, Maxwell’s Bar & Grill is something of an institution in London, and to celebrate Thanksgiving they’ve put together a three-course menu costing a pocket-friendly £25. Starters come in the form of Jim Beam BBQ wings and deep-fried halloumi slices with buffalo mayo, while mains include roast maple glazed turkey with garlic mash, a moreish mac ’n’ cheese with a biscuit crust, and pumpkin pie for dessert.
The Milestone Hotel
The Milestone Hotel likes to go big for Thanksgiving and this year they might have outdone themselves. While putting on a traditional three-course meal of seafood chowder, Norfolk bronze turkey and homemade cookie dough ice cream with bourbon custard, you can also look forward to their limited edition cocktail, A Milestone Blessing. Mixed together with 10-year-old malt whisky, Laphraoig, Wray & Nephew White Overproof Rum, lapsang souchong tea and vanilla syrup, it’s a strong but smooth sip to cheers the holiday of thanks.
Village East
You don’t need to fly to America to have a traditional Thanksgiving. Stay put and join Village East this Thursday for a flawless spread of stateside comforts. Kicking off with an Old Fashioned garnished with bourbon soaked cranberries, you can expect a table packed with cornbread and sausage stuffing, maple-buttered sweet potatoes, mac ’n’ cheese, sprouts with smoky bacon and Norfolk bronze turkey. Indulgent and comforting in equal measure, it’s a no brainer for those looking for something that’s a home away from home.
Bunga Bunga
If anyone knows how to throw a party, it’s Bunga Bunga. Join them in Covent Garden on 22 November for non-stop fun as cheeky burlesque performances run rampant while you tuck into a four-course feast of antipasti and metre-long pizzas. Joining forces with Jack Daniels, you can look forward to limited edition cocktails on the night too, like the Maple Bacon Old Fashioned and the Gold Rush.
Porky’s
Get familiar with Jim Beam this Thanksgiving as the world’s number one bourbon joins forces with Porky’s for a limited edition menu. Taking place on both Thursday 22 and Friday 23 November, you can nab two three-course meals at the restaurant, for just £20. From jalapeno croquettes to start and smoked turkey with a pulled pork stuffing and green onion mash with Jim Beam cranberry highball sauce for mains, you’ll gobble up everything in the blink of an eye.
Clutch
There’s been plenty of hype about plant-based eating in 2018, but if you’re still a die-hard fan of meat, you might be keeping an eye out for restaurants who source it ethically. Clutch is all about guilt-free chicken, ordering everything from a free-range farm in Wiltshire, and this year they’re putting on quite the spread for Thanksgiving. Arrive at their Hoxton coop on 22 November with at least four mates and you can gobble up a pear and thyme brined turkey with all the trimmings (think herb and onion stuffing and maple drizzle turkey bacon) and pumpkin pie.
Bread Street Kitchen
Thanksgiving is about sitting around the table with your nearest and dearest, but if you’re struggling to fit everyone into your dining room this year, Bread Street Kitchen is the next best thing. Designed for group sharing, their special menu for the holidays will have you feeling all kinds of grateful with wagyu meatballs and mac and cheese bites to confit turkey leg main and a peanut butter parfait for dessert.
Scout
Scout is a zero-waste cocktail bar in Hackney. Always harbouring 12 concoctions on the menu, they’ve made it 13 for this year’s Thanksgiving celebrations. Embracing autumnal flavours, Matt Whiley (aka The Talented Mr Fox) who was voted European Bartender of the Year 2018, has created the Rainy Autumn Wild Turkey 101 Old Fashioned from Wild Turkey, Jerusalem artichoke infused Wild Turkey 101, sugar syrup, and coffee liqueur.
