Today's front pages: Warnings over the NHS

The NHS dominates the headlines this morning, with The Times's front page dedicated to an "unprecedented" warning from leading pharmaceutical companies that they will be forced to scale back their presence in the UK unless more is spent on the health service.

Adding to the gloom, The Independent claims a third of specialist children's wards have closed their doors because of a shortage of doctors.

GP surgeries closing in the afternoons makes the front page of the Daily Mail, following a report by MPs saying that half of England's 7,600 practices shut down at some point. The midweek closures are blamed on a combination of an "early closing" culture and worsening staff shortages.

Foreign volunteers fleeing the ranks of Islamic State makes the front page in The Guardian, which says the terror group is struggling to hold on to its shrinking territory. It adds that two British fighters were among the dozens intercepted trying to enter Turkey.
