Barkley is out of contract at the end of next season with Everton, and boss Ronald Koeman is apparently growing frustrated with the fact he hasn't yet penned a new deal at Goodison Park. The Standard says if he doesn't put pen to paper "before this term concludes, he is likely to be sold in the summer".

Both Spurs chairman Daniel Levy and manager Mauricio Pochettino like the look of Barkley and believe he would fit in well to the Tottenham squad.

It had been rumoured that the playmaker wished to stay in the north of England - alerting Manchester City - but he's now "believed to be open to moving south".

And the Standard adds that it's not only Barkley who is on Pochettino's radar: so are Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha, as well as Burnley forward Andre Gray and Leicester sharpshooter Demarai Gray.

But there's worrying news for the Lilywhites in the pages of the Daily Star with the paper claiming that Manchester United are stalking Toby Alderweireld.

The Belgian international is in talks with Tottenham about signing a contract extension but the fact he's yet to agree terms has apparently given Jose Mourinho hope that he may be able to lure the 28-year-old defender to Old Trafford in the summer having first triggered Alderweireld's £25m release clause.

Spurs transfer news: Midfielders Mesa and Brozovic on the radar

15 March

Several Premier League clubs are stalking Las Palmas midfielder Roque Mesa, claims Metro, but it is Spurs who are reportedly leading the chase for the 27-year-old playmaker.

Also in hot pursuit of the Spaniard are Premier League rivals Liverpool and Everton, both of whom have been impressed by his performances in La Liga. Mesa arrived at the Spanish outfit in 2010 and has matured into a cultured player over the past few seasons.

Spanish rag Marca claims that Spurs are particularly keen, although they'll face competition not just from their Merseyside rivals but also Bayern Munich, who are described as "potential suitors". Metro says that Mesa has "a buy-out clause written into his current contract worth £26.2m" but the Spanish press believes that a club that offers around a third of that sum could weaken the resolve of Las Palmas

If that move fails then Spurs could instead sign Inter Milan dynamo Marcelo Brozovic, reports website HITC. It picks up on reports in Italy that Tottenham are keen on the Croatia midfielder and are prepared to splash as much as €25m on the 24-year-old, who has long been linked with a move to the Premier League, with Arsenal thought to be among his admirers.

Spurs transfer news: Teenage striker Pinamonti on the radar

7 March

Tottenham's stellar season has given them hope that they can pinch Andrea Pinamonti from Inter Milan, reports Talksport.

The broadcaster claims that the 17-year-old's agent "is set for showdown talks" in the coming days with his current club with no shortage of interest in the teenager's future.

Pinamonti is rated as one of the most promising forwards in Serie A and he has already made his debut for Inter having impressed for the Italy under-19 side. Talksport says that "Tottenham have been alerted to the striker's talents" and consequently Inter are working on a new deal for the youngster, which could be a five-year-one as they look to ward off interest from the Lilywhites.

Meanwhile, Ben Davies is set to be rewarded for his impressive displays since coming into the side as a replacement for the injured Danny Rose. According to The Sun he is "poised to become the latest White Hart Lane star to pledge their future to the club", and in return the 23-year-old will be handed a four-year, £60,000-a-week deal.

It represents yet another coup for the London club, says the paper. "Harry Kane, Hugo Lloris, Dele Alli, Kyle Walker, Jan Vertonghen, Eric Dier and Christian Eriksen have already signed new deals this season," says the Sun. "And Spurs are confident that Belgian defender Toby Alderweireld will follow suit."

Spurs transfer news: Andre Gray to take pressure off Kane

6 March

Mauricio Pochettino believes he's found the man to "take some of the pressure off" Harry Kane next season when Tottenham relocate to Wembley.

According to the Daily Express the player in question is Burnley striker Andre Gray and Pochettino is quietly confident he can lure the Claret to Tottenham in the summer.

Tipped for an England call-up later this month, Gray has 15 months remaining on his Burnley contract and the Express says that while the club would like him to sign a new deal Gray is believed to be keen on a move to a side that are regularly playing in Europe. Gray would also not break the Tottenham bank, a factor in the summer given that the club are financially stretched as they move to Wembley during the redevelopment of White Hart Lane.

Meanwhile the Sunday Mirror claims that Tottenham "face a challenge" from Red Bull Leipzig in their pursuit of Crystal Palace midfielder Wilfried Zaha. The paper says that Spurs made a move for Zaha in January's transfer window, only to fail with their £14m bid, and while they are expected to have another crack in the summer they will now have to see off competition from the German outfit.

Leipzig are having a strong season in the Bundesliga, currently second behind Bayern Munich, and the prospect of qualifying for next season's Champions League has given them confidence in the transfer market.
