The Biden administration on Thursday announced it is imposing sanctions on Russian individuals and entities in response to election interference and hacks and expelling 10 Russian diplomats. Many of those targeted are linked to the Internet Research Agency, a troll farm that meddled in the 2016 election, or the massive SolarWinds hack, which is believed to have been orchestrated by Russia. President Biden told reporters at the White House on Thursday evening he was "clear" with Russian President Vladimir Putin during a recent phone call that "we could have gone further, but I chose not to do so. I chose to be proportionate. The United States is not looking to kick off a cycle of escalation and conflict with Russia."
